Australians are increasingly reliant on the internet and digital devices for remote learning and work, making everyone a potential target for heartless cybercriminals. Cybercriminals seek to gain access to devices through the internet or unsecure software to steal money and sensitive personal information.

To help the growing number of Australians connecting online, the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD’s ACSC) has launched two new easy-to-follow guides that both kids and parents can use to protect themselves from ransomware and other cyber threats.

Available here on this website, our Cyber Security Instruction Manual: A Kid’s Guide and the Quick Wins for your Portable Devices guides are full of simple tips like using a passphrase or a PIN to lock a device, and only downloading software and apps from official stores.

It is never too early to start learning about how to be cyber smart against online threats like phishing emails and ransomware, and the ASD’s ACSC is a one-stop-shop for the latest cyber security advice.

You can also find here guides for families including the Personal Cyber Security Series, and the How to Use the Internet Securely - A Guide for Seniors.

All Australians are urged to report cybercrime and cyber incidents to ReportCyber, or call the 24/7 cyber security hotline 1300 CYBER1 (1300 292 371).
